Step-by-Step Guide: Setting Up Xtream Codes API on TiviMate

When it comes to streaming efficiency, the Xtream Codes API is the gold standard for connecting an IPTV service to your player. Unlike traditional M3U URL playlists — which require downloading massive text files that can choke your device's memory — the Xtream Codes API uses a streamlined database handshake. It parses thousands of channels in seconds, organises your categories flawlessly, and automatically updates your Electronic Program Guide (EPG).

If you are running TiviMate on Android TV or Fire Stick, configuring it via Xtream Codes takes less than two minutes. Follow this step-by-step blueprint to get up and running.

Before You Start

What You Need

Have your subscription credentials on hand. When a provider supports Xtream Codes, they will give you three distinct pieces of information:

Server URL (Host)

http://example.com:8080

Always include the port number if provided.

Username

A unique string of letters or numbers assigned to your account.

Password

Your account security string. Case-sensitive — copy it exactly.

Step 1

Open TiviMate and Add a Playlist

Launch the TiviMate app on your Android TV, Google TV, or Amazon Fire TV device.

Fresh installation
You will immediately see a splash screen with an Add Playlist button. Click it.
Existing installation
Press the Menu / Back button on your remote to open the left-hand sidebar → scroll to Settings (gear icon) → select Playlists → Add Playlist.
Step 2

Choose the Xtream Codes Connection Type

TiviMate will present three connection methods: M3U Playlist, Xtream Codes, and Stalker Portal.

  1. 1 Scroll down and select Xtream Codes.
  2. 2 Click on Server Address and input the Server URL provided by your service using the on-screen keyboard (or a remote control app on your phone to make typing easier).
  3. 3 Double-check that you included http:// or https:// exactly as written, followed by the colon and port number. Click Next.
Step 3

Enter Your Username and Password

  1. 1 Select the Username field and enter your unique user ID.
  2. 2 Select the Password field and type in your password.
  3. 3 Look below the password field for the Include VOD toggle — check the tip below, then click Next.
💡 Include VOD Toggle

If your provider offers movies and TV series alongside live TV, check this box. If you only want live channels and want to maximise your device's speed, leave it unchecked.

Step 4

Name Your Playlist and Finalise

TiviMate will initiate a handshake with the Xtream Codes server. If your credentials are correct, it will download the data index and display a success message.

Playlist Name
TiviMate auto-fills this with the server address. Click on it and change it to something recognisable — e.g. the name of your IPTV provider — so you can manage it easily later.
Finalise
Click Done. TiviMate will begin caching channels, movie poster art, and program guides.
Step 5

Wait for Content & EPG Processing

⚠️ Do not press any buttons yet. TiviMate is now caching channels, poster art, and program guide data in the background.

Because you used the Xtream Codes API rather than an M3U file, TiviMate automatically configures your EPG source — you do not need to manually paste a separate XMLTV guide link.

Depending on your provider's catalog size, processing takes 10 seconds to 1 minute. Once complete, your traditional cable-style grid guide will map out across your screen.

Pro Tips

Two Settings to Optimise Your Setup

1

Turn On Auto-Update

Go to Settings → Playlists → select your playlist → Update on app start and toggle it ON. Every time you open TiviMate, new channels and fixed stream updates from your provider sync automatically.

2

Set the EPG Refresh Interval to 24 Hours

Go to Settings → EPG → Update Interval and set it to 24 hours. This stops your device from constantly querying the server for program guides, preventing performance hiccups and unexpected app crashes on entry-level streaming sticks.
